OUR PHILOSOPHY
Empowering through Happiness
When people ask about what we teach at Dukesbridge, we like to say that we teach happiness. Because this is fundamentally what we do. We wholeheartedly believe that if children are fascinated by their aesthetic environment, passionate about what they get to do, and have fun exploring and discovering, the happiness this creates will naturally motivate them and give them the confidence they need to achieve and even exceed their goals, whatever they may be. Through our commitment to making school fun, lively and enjoyable, a lot of effort therefore goes into creating a happy place which our students call home from the moment they approach the school’s driveway.
OUR MOTIVATION
Holistic Development of the Child
Guided by the Australian approach to education, Dukesbridge combines elements from the Montessori method – such as the child-centered pedagogy of learning through play – with the Waldorf Steiner educational philosophy of nurturing a child’s intellectual, artistic and practical skills in an integrated and holistic manner. Through a broad curriculum in the tradition of the liberal arts, Dukesbridge integrates a wide range of practical, sensorial, technological and music-and-arts-inspired lessons in the traditional subject disciplines. Importantly, we promote exposure to a variety of extracurricular activities, languages and life skills throughout their studies in line with our objective of developing all-rounder individuals with multiple physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills.
OUR CULTURE
The Power of Encouragement
The Dukesbridge culture of encouragement is woven through all the various layers of school life. It starts with the team (also known as the Dukesbridge family) who continually learns from, encourages and builds each other up. Immersed in this culture of encouragement, our students become generous with their praises of their peers to celebrate the slightest achievement. Classroom management revolves around positive behaviour reinforcement whereby students are encouraged daily to face their fears and overcome their challenges. To complete the picture, parents play a significant role in endorsing their children by being involved in their learning, cheering for them at the annual Dukesbridge games and volunteering with the various events which the team puts on for the school community. Consistent encouragement and bringing good reports help create a safe, healthy and positive environment aimed at instilling self-confidence for every individual.
OUR MISSION
Build a School, Change the Nations
Our children, the leaders of our future generation, will become whoever we mould them to be. Shower them with intellectual training and they will become knowledgeable. But immerse them in a multi-disciplinary educational foundation, and they will become balanced multi-skilled problem-solvers ready to take on the world. Dukesbridge goes one step further and embeds life skills into the daily timetables. For instance, from the age of one, children are responsible for tidying up their classrooms by helping put away all of the toys and our older primary aged students are trained to cook and dish out a meal, actively protect the environment and even sew a button onto their uniform shirt. Our desire is to see a Dukesbridge student graduate as a happy, confident all-rounder responsible citizen. If a good teacher can change a child’s life forever, then a good school can change the life of a whole community, and a good school with multiple campuses can change the future of an entire nation.
