Our People

Our Teachers: the school’s bedrock

Delivering our best

By far and large, our biggest assets are our teachers. We consider teaching to be more than just a job – it is not one where you can clock in and clock out and get on with your life.  As a second parent to their students, teachers get to understand them, bond with them and care for them even before any formal teaching takes place. It becomes part of your life. We consider it a privilege to be the people who get to shape and inculcate in the next generation of leaders ethical behaviour and emotional intelligence alongside their academic knowledge.

Classes are kept relatively small in size and the pupil to staff ratio is ahead of the regulatory requirements. We would tend to have 1 adult for every 3-4 bubs, the ratio is 1:6 for the TOTS and around 1:12 for the older preschool sections. At the primary level, we would have approximately 20 students in a class.

I am genuinely proud to be part of Dukesbridge Team. I actually spent all my evening talking with my family about how great the day was. What motivates me? My kids, those 20 tiny human being in my class motivate me, my fabulous team at Trianon campus motivates me. I have been saying this lately but every morning when I wake up and come to work. It feels so natural and it brings so much happiness to my soul that it doesn’t feel like I am going to work.

Teachers are guided all the way

Making it happen

Our teachers adhere to a high and consistent standard of teaching, and this is made possible through a centralised curriculum for each age group whereby lessons have been meticulously planned for every day of every term. The Dukesbridge lesson plans come with teacher’s guides, pre-prepared worksheets and other activities. For each age group, there is one Head of Department who checks in with all teachers working with the respective age group across all our campuses on a weekly basis via video conference. Every teacher also fills out an online feedback form at the end of every school day and the feedback is used to constantly refine the lesson planning process.

Love the way we work and the professionalism shown at every level from Tots to Windsor. Being part of Dukesbridge makes me feel proud of being an educator. I get personal satisfaction that my hard work is being noticed and praised which didn’t always happen in other schools I have worked at. I feel complete as an educator and there is so much scope to grow further here.

Campus Managers: day to day supervision

Running the Show

Our preschool campuses are intentionally kept rather small and decentralised so that it is a homely, cosy feel for both parents and the little ones before they go to primary school. Each campus has its own duty manager who is responsible for the day to day running of the centre. In addition to the administrative tasks such as handling admissions, dealing with parents’ queries and staff rostering, campus managers also help and guide teachers. Given that most of them have been with Dukesbridge for a long time as experienced teachers, they are able to assist with particular classroom situations that arise from time to time. Campus managers are connected all day long with the Executive Team via an online communication tool and meet with Senior Management every fortnight.

I was thinking about this for appraisal and the fact that my plans had changed for me to come to Mauritius, I sent Dukesbridge the message only on the off chance and amongst other job offers I was pulled towards the Dukesbridge vision and the staff/directors. I have grown so much, done things/events that I would never normally do! The Primary vision was sold to me and something that I fully support Dukesbridge with – my motivation is purely to help Dukesbridge provide the best education that kids deserve. I want to see them grow and begin their academic life with all the advantages that they should have access to – can’t wait to see the kids and the primary grow! So yes, I’m happy – hard work but extremely rewarding….apologies for gushing 😉

Zone Leaders bring campuses together

Joining the Dots

As we have expanded geographically, we have established Zone Leaders in charge of a group of campuses to ensure close monitoring of our processes, teaching standards and customer service homogeneity. Zone Leaders act like internal inspectors. They constantly pop in and out of their assigned campuses, make recommendations to campus managers and teachers, ensure the quality of the Dukesbridge product is adhered to by each campus and report to the Chief Operations Officer at the end of each week. Zone Leaders are critical in ensuring consistency in the delivery of our offering across all the locations and are a big support to the campus managers.

The working environment itself is quite different compared to other schools I have worked in. Actually, I can say that it’s totally different. We have got very friendly directors, managers as well as other staff. Our worksheets, timetables, materials, everything is provided for us – this makes the work much easier for us.

A dedicated in-house maintenance team

Keeping it together

There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to upkeep our multiple facilities and to help putting on events on campus. We have to thank our dedicated in-house maintenance team for this. Our versatile maintenance team is on call for every little thing that needs fixing at any of our locations and helps the campuses run smoothly with limited interruptions.
